Sheriff’s officer charged in Gardner stand-off

A Johnson County Sheriff’s deputy was charged today following a stand-off in the St. Johns Trace subdivision on Dec. 5.

Ethan Moss, 40, was charged with aggravated assault, criminal restraint and domestic battery. Moss, Gardner, is on administrative leave from the sheriff’s office. He is a six-year veteran of the office.

Police responded to a domestic violence call at 6:11 a.m. on Thursday morning. When the subject refused to leave his home in the 32500 block of 174th Terrace, law enforcement countered with large equipment, tactical and canine units and dozens of officers.

At about 8:30 a.m., officers evacuated a few homes nearby.

 

Johnson County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Tom Erickson said the incidence was not a hostage situation, however there were other people inside the home when police initially arrived at the scene.

Officers arrested a white, 40-year-old Gardner man at approximately 10: 15 a.m. No one was injured during the incident.

Police will release the name of the suspect once he has been charged.
